Soundproofing a Wall

Internal Wall Soundproofing By UK Insulation

The initial and most important goal with any internal wall soundproofing project should be to add density.  By adding density to a walls surface you disconnect the wall assembly.  This will enable to transmitting sound waves to be dissipated within the walls construction.  By doing this you can easily reduce noise bleed by up to 85%.  Once this has been achieved you can combine sound absorbing materials with one or multiple layers of high density layer to achieve luxurious levels of soundproofing.  Starting with density.  If you imagine the face of a drum, once the skin is excited it continues to produce sound.  If you apply pressure against the skin, the noise stops. Within wall construction similar phenomenon occurs. The materials used in standard internal wall construction are not dense enough to enable the collapse and dissipation of sound waves.  WallSTOP™ has been specifically developed to add mass to the walls surface and both act as a noise barrier whilst reducing the impact of resonance on the walls surface. By fitting WallSTOP™ you can reduced up to 85% of the noise bleed within the walls construction.  WallSTOP™ can be incorporated within an existing walls construction or adding into the walls at the initial stages of design.

Reducing structure borne noise transmission

Most internal walls are single plasterboard construction either side of 2 x 4" joists with a glasswool based insulation product fitted within the air gap.  This standard construction ties the wall assembly together which allows structure borne noise to transmit through the wall at the points at which they are all connected. By using WallSTOP™ behind the layer of plasterboard this also acts as a dampener at the points at which it is connected to the joists.  This can also be said of metal joist construction.

How to install WallSTOP™ Wall Soundproofing

WallSTOP™ soundproofing is easy to install and provides instant results.  If you are able to incorporate this within the walls design you can achieve simply stunning results. By adding WallSTOP™ to both inner layers of the wall (behind the plasterboard) you will gain both the density required as well as the reduction in structure borne vibrations. When fitting you can simply staple the WallSTOP™ to the wooden joists.  The material will butt together neatly and it is very easy to cut to pattern of the joists, you can then fit the plasterboard with ease.  This only adds an additional few minutes to the walls construction yet adds years of lasting results.
